Noosa Heads is the perfect base for day trips around the Sunshine Coast area.

In the morning you can enjoy the beauty of Noosa Heads, perhaps starting with a stroll on the beach or breakfast in Hastings St before heading out to explore the area. The following attractions are all just a short drive from Noosa and provide something for everyone.

The diversity of the Noosa Heads area offers so much for visitors and locals alike to enjoy.

Day trips and activities from Noosa Heads.

1. Australia Zoo

Just a short drive from Noosa at the base of the Glass House Mountains in Beerwah you will find the very popular Australia Zoo. The zoo provides up close animal encounters, daily shows as well as many education and conservation programs. The Crocoseum and Birds of Prey Show are a highlight along with the Tiger Temple and Bindi’s Island. Be prepared for some serious wildlife action on your day trip from Noosa Heads.  Australia Zoo is open every day except Christmas Day so it is the perfect day trip from Noosa Heads. If you don’t have your own car there are bus connections and organised day trips to he Australia Zoo. It is also very easy to organise car hire from Noosa Heads.

2. Ginger Factory

The Ginger factory is only 30 minutes drive from Noosa Heads, just off the Bruce Highway at Yandina and is a very popular tourist destination with children and adults alike. Enjoy educational tours, fun rides, great shopping facilities and a fantastic cafe featuring modern Australian cuisine. From the largest range of the world’s finest ginger products to tranquil gardens and walks, there is so much to discover, taste, see and do.

Highlights of your visit could include a ride on The Ginger Train, a tour through the factory, an up close encounter with the beekeeper or a visit to the ice creamery. The ginger factory is open all year round and is undoubtedly a great day trip from Noosa.

3. Underwater World

No trip to Noosa Heads is complete without a day trip visiting Underwater World at Mooloolaba! Less than 40 minutes drive from Noosa and situated at Mooloolaba Wharf,  Underwater World is home to thousands of animals, including sharks, seals, turtles, stingrays, otters, sawfish, tropical fish and much, much more. As one of the Sunshine Coast’s leading family and tourist attractions, Underwater World offers entertainment for young and old alike.

Walk underwater through the glass viewing tunnel and see Australia’s marine life like never before! Come within inches of huge sharks, rays and turtles and see some of the remarkable marine and freshwater animals that Australia is famous for. A popular activity is Showtime at Seal Island where visitors learn about the seals and have the opportunity to get up close and personal with them –some lucky visitors even getting a kiss from a seal. Open every day except Christmas day it is easy to spend a whole day at Underwater World. This activity is well worth the day trip from Noosa Heads.

4. Learn to Stand Up Paddle /Surf

With its pristine waterways spanning endless kilometers of rivers, protected bays and surf points, Noosa really is the perfect location to learn to Stand Up Paddle. Add to this year round gorgeous weather, a laid back vibe and beautiful natural surroundings and you will discover there really is no better place in the world to try this fun ( and addictive ) sport! The magic moment of gliding across the ocean in Noosa is the ultimate stimulation. It’s a live now in the moment, relaxation and exhilaration activity combined.

Sitting beyond the break waiting for that next wave offers time for contemplation. Stand-up Paddle surfing or, SUP-ing is believed to have originated from Hawaii in the 1950s.

The Beach Boys of Waikiki would stand on their long boards and paddle out with outrigger paddles to take photographs of the tourists learning to surf. Noosa Heads is the perfect location to learn to do this activity. You can gain your confidence on the relative calm of the Noosa River before venturing out into the surf zones, all within a few minutes of Noosa Heads.

5. Horse Riding on North Shore

Riding along the beach on Noosa’s beautiful North Shore has been described as exhilarating, breathtaking, liberating and a must do experience while visiting Noosa Heads. Rides cater for all levels of ability so if you have never ridden before it doesn’t matter. The location on Noosa’s North Shore is simply stunning. The horses love it and you will too. Riding experiences range from a short 1 hour ride to overnight adventures.

6. Eumundi Markets

Just over 20 minutes drive from Noosa Heads at Eumundi you will find one of Australia’s premier artisan markets. A day visit to the Eumundi Markets is perfect if you’re looking for something different, something handmade or something special.

You’ll find original artworks, sculptures, furniture, handmade toys, home wares, and skincare, as well as cutting edge fashion and jewellery by local designers. If you’re a foodie, you’ll especially love the wealth of fresh produce – including fresh fruit and vegetables, freshly baked breads, locally made cheeses and yoghurts. There’s plenty of local talent to keep you entertained, with world-music sounds, country tunes and tribal rhythms. You can also have your palm read or indulge in a vast array of services offered by our many health and wellbeing practitioners.

The markets are open Saturdays 7am – 2pm and Wednesdays 8am – 1.30pm. In addition there are night markets usually on a Friday between 5.00 and 9.00pm. The markets also offer school holiday activities so it is worth checking out their website for up to date information and times before you visit.
