Coffee gems in Noosa!

Not only does Noosa pride itself as a slice of coastal bliss, stunning natural attractions with a thriving food scene, we also pride ourselves on the array of coffees.  Having the luxury of living in a tourist town there is an abundance of cafes, pop up coffee vans and stalls offering smooth coffees with creamy funky designs.  Some cafes like to shake things up, recently in a new raw café, had to try the a half coconut / half almond milk………. tasted a little different but still delicious.

At Noosa Crest we offer Little Cove Coffee called the smooth percolator which is a must if your a keen coffee drinker.  If you can get to the Little Cove café, try there recent cockodoodle brew which pulls back your eyelids and SCREAMS wake up in the morning.

The list would be endless if I was to name all the great cafes in town but to name a few off the radar would be Black Pepper in Noosa Junction.  Todd & Steph (mother & son) are very welcoming, offer gluten free food and love a chat.  If your along Gympie terrace, can’t go past Grind nor The River Read Bookstore, I love checking out the latest books as I sip away.  On Hastings street is Hard Café in bay village.  They offer Campos coffee which is smooth & strong.

If your in Sunshine Beach try out Dukes Deli which has recently changed over to Tobys Estate coffee, great customer service plus they add in a little shortbread on the side, I’m also a bit partial to the celebrity spotting from the deck.  Another popular local spot is Gibsons, they have an amazing coffee machine called La Marzocco and specially ordered the colour green in fitting with the cafe.  They offer exotic Lattetude coffee beans and a great place on a hot day offering air conditioning and lots of magazines & papers to indulge in.

Belmondos is also a hot spot, its a fresh food market in Noosa off the beaten track in Rene street (industrial estate).  You can view a range of coffee beans and take the time to discuss, smell and review your next brew.  They pride themselves in top quality products with good old fashion customer service.

Every corner in Noosa you will find a coffee shop so be sure to let us know how your brew went!

If you haven’t already heard, Noosa’s putting on a new fresh face for summer with a new wave of exciting bars and restaurants heading this way.  Next time you’re in Noosa, you have to check out these new faces……

*Noosa Beach House Peter Kuruvita – Right in the heart of Hastings Street, replacing Catos Bar at the Sheraton, this is really fresh, clean and beachy with a relaxed vibe in the bar for cocktails and all day dining or seriously delicious Sri Lankan inspired cuisine in the restaurant.

*Locale – Noosa recently sadly said goodbye to the fabulous Italian institutuion that was Lindonis but the owners have just launched their new baby – Locale. Located down at the Paris end of Hastings Street, this well designed modern Italian Trattoria is offering relaxed dining and a great wine bar.

*Miss Moneypenny’s – on the site of the old Ma Mensa on Hastings Street, this sprawling new cocktail bar-restaurant opens on 01 November and offers a fun atmosphere and funky cocktails for those coming straight off the beach or heading out in style.

Noosa is still heaven for foodies with plenty to offer on and off Hastings Street. Noosa Junction with it’s relaxed vibe, eclectic shops and cafes has been given a facelift as has parts of Gympie Terrace at Noosaville.  The fabulous Noosa Farmers Markets are still a ‘must do’ for anyone visiting Noosa to stock up on the freshest local fruit and veggies and those amazing Noosa Red tomatoes,Gympie Goats Cheese, Essential Grain breads, Noosa Spanner Crabs and so so much more!

It’s hotting up in Noosa but there’s a fresh vibe in the air, perfect swell and lots of fresh new faces to meet!

Noosa’s a Winter Wonderland

By | accommodation noosa, beach holiday, Beach holidays, Blog, Family holidays, Hastings street, Laguna Bay, Noosa Accommodation, Noosa Apartments, Noosa Crest Resort, Noosa food, Noosa Hill, Noosa Hinterland, Noosa Resort, Noosa restaurants, Noosa River, Noosa shopping, Romantic escapes, Uncategorized | No Comments

It’s winter?  Seriously? This is end of another perfect winter day in Noosa. A winter wonderland with a difference!

True…it is cooler, especially at night and those mornings can be a challenge to get to the beach for that morning walk or swim but seriously! It’s 22 degrees during the day and the temperature really only plummets to 12 degrees on the coolest nights. Not exactly freezing…right!

The locals may be rugged up in coats and boots but the visitors are out on the beach in force, frolicking in the waves, surfing, swimming and having fun. Even the little ones are out there on their boogie boards totally oblivious to the fact that it’s winter!

We think this is absolutely the best time to visit Noosa and here’s why:

*It’s peaceful. No crowds, parking is not an issue – on the street or for yourself on the beach, nor is getting into your fav restaurant or getting a room at a great price.

*Shop and café staff are more attentive and relaxed and are genuinely happy to see you and serve you. And best of all, there are bargains to be had!

*The beach is perfect…unspoilt by crowds and the water is calm and crystal clear. Fish everywhere! Noosa’s North Shore is at its best – so it’s a great time to head up the beach in your 4WD and enjoy a spot of fishing.

*Most days are clear and sunny and finish with stunning sunsets – like the one above. Sometimes it rains but not often (and when it does it’s your excuse to curl up on the lounge with your book and a hot chocolate).

*Wildlife spotting is better. The koalas seem to appear more often in the National Park and the brush turkeys are everywhere and the birdlife is amazing, everything seems to come to life.

*The cool weather is perfect for hiking the National Park or Noosa Hill or even exploring the mountain ranges, and for long bike rides out to quaint hinterland towns or down the scenic coast road.  It’s also perfect for throwing on a jacket and strolling to your restaurant of choice for a luscious glass of red with your pork belly or Osso Buco.   And, for finding a sunny spot on the grass for a lunchtime picnic in the Woods, the Lions Park or along Gympie Terrace.

*And best of all….it’s perfect weather for snuggling up with your loved one and enjoying those romantic sunsets.

We love Noosa in winter and so will you.  Let us know if you have had any special winter moments in Noosa.

Keep warm!

Welcome to Noosa badgeLast night our resort team attended the unveiling of Tourism Noosa’s much anticipated Welcome to Noosa initiative. Together with 250 other Tourism Noosa members, we witnessed the beginning of a new era in customer service for Noosa. Wow!

In an effort to ensure that Noosa visitors are greeted with warmth, friendliness, enthusiasm and professional service, and to meet the expectations of todays’ discerning travellers in a competitive tourism environment, Tourism Noosa has now created an innovative tourism training initiative that aims to revitalise a quality service culture throughout the industry and boost Noosa’s reputation as a premier holiday destination.

Welcome to Noosa, is about not just meeting the expectations of our guests but exceeding them and proving to visitors that Noosa is a world class destination to visit again and again. The program is basically an easy-to-use online training program that helps Noosa’s customer service industry to build stronger businesses and deliver a memorable experience for visitors to Noosa and local customers alike.

We loved that Celebrity chef Pete Evans was the special guest at the launch and is the face of the campaign…a perfect ambassador. His whole life is about customer service and of course he loves Noosa and is a regular visitor here. What’s not to love!

We are all looking forward to completing the program so next time you’re in Noosa, look out for these badges which indicate those of us who have completed the program and are now Welcome to Noosa ambassadors.

Noosa said ‘YES’!

Noosa Beach

Noosa is on the brink of a new chapter!

This weekend, over 80% of Noosa people voted YES to de-amalgamate from the Sunshine Coast Council and to once again take up the right to control their own destiny.

Partying in the street, cheering, flag flying, everybody smiling, hugging and kissing each other. Congratulations all round!  We can breathe again.

Noosa recently received a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to the polls and cast their vote to stay within the boundaries of the super city that is the Sunshine Coast or split and go it alone – back to previous Noosa Shire boundaries and personalised, community governance. This in itself was an incredible achievement, made possible only because of a dedicated and hugely passionate group of Noosa people who have worked tirelessly and diligently for 5 years to bring about this process. After that, it was up to the people of Noosa to decide, and decide they did!

Everyone that loves and enjoys Noosa for what it is should be eternally grateful for their efforts.

People power has spoken – it’s an amazing thing when it happens! Gives you the faith that if you truly believe in something and are passionate and focussed and dedicated to the cause – great things can be achieved and wrongs can be righted, even against huge odds.

When Noosa and other Qld councils were forced to relinquish their right to govern themselves 5 years ago in an undemocratic act of breathtaking arrogance by the Beattie/Bligh government, Noosa said ….‘WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP!’ and they didn’t. Noosa along with Douglas Shire, Mareeba Shire and Livingstone Shire have all fought long and hard and have all now forged back the right to make local decisions for their local community and to manage their own destiny. They are not cities.  They are all about community, not bureaucracy! Bigger is not always better.

The road ahead to independence will certainly not be easy but the challenges in achieving local democracy will always be worth the effort so that we can return to genuine local decision making and community engagement, and all those people that love Noosa can continue to enjoy its unspoilt beauty and special charm now and forever.

Congratulations Noosa!

Christmas comes early to Noosa!

Santas surfing the Noosa National Park

Santas by Sea

Christmas came early to Noosa this year.  To be specific it arrived at 10 am on Thursday the 6th of December via the Minister for Local Government.

The Christmas present Noosa received is; a vote in March 2013, for the right to regain a Noosa Council. Noosa residents have finally received the opportunity to determine for all time Noosa’s future.

So what’s the big deal?

Here it is in a nutshell……

In previous eras Noosa’s critical town planning (and all other council decisions) were controlled by their own local council made up entirely of Noosa people.
Then, in 2008, against massive opposition the Queensland government brutally forced amalgamation on 97 local government areas including Noosa in the name of “cost efficiencies”.

Noosa was forced to become part of the Sunshine Coast Council – a super city incorporating areas as far south as Landsborough, and areas such as Maroochydore and Mooloolaba which aspire to be cities in their own right and who share very little lifestyle values with the people of Noosa. The seat of council was relocated to Nambour and Noosa residents were hit with rate increases and loss of services and representation.

Noosa has always chosen and fought for many decades for a different model. It is based around low level, low density development. It insists on round-a-bouts instead of traffic lights, and very subdued advertising signage. It has height restrictions of four storeys along Noosa Main Beach. It does its best to be a low stress area with minimal invasive city symbols ie. no parking metres. It is a place that has chosen not to become part of the mediocrity of urban sprawl that makes up so much of Australia. It is truly a special place and because of the community’s long-standing commitment to conservation, sustainable development and lifestyle protection Noosa is now a UNESCO-recognised Noosa Biosphere Reserve.

Over decades the Noosa community has proven itself eminently capable of administering its own region. It has earned the right to continue to do so.

This model is the reason visitors from across the globe are attracted to live and holiday in Noosa and this is the reason land values are amongst the highest in the country. Under the current amalgamated super council, Noosa is losing its way ….fast, unable to uphold the values and vision for which it has fought to retain for so long.

So, thanks to some passionate, hardworking and committed local people, Noosa now has been given a chance to take control of its destiny once again. “After many years of effort we will get a chance to decide whether we want a local Council making local decisions after listening to what residents want.” “We will get a chance to vote against becoming a city, with high-rise, paid parking, over-development and the crime and congestion that go with it. “If the people vote in numbers of more than 50% in favour, Noosa may be able to reinstate a council which has over generations proven to be cost effective and visionary.

If the people vote to stay part of the super council it will only be a matter of time before Noosa’s only 2 councillors are overwhelmed by the huge majority of councillors focussed on growth and development at all costs….and this special part of the world will soon become eroded and just another mediocre ‘suburbia by sea’.

If Noosa people get it right in March, you and your family should be able to enjoy Noosa for generations to come.

Merry Christmas Noosa!  May all your wishes come true!
